To test out CRA products, we recommend using the testing account user_bank_income (with the password {} — a literal pair of curly braces). This account includes a wide variety of example income streams to fit your testing needs.
When testing, you should use a non-OAuth test institution such as First Platypus Bank (ins_109508). Keep in mind that if you use the Sandbox Link OAuth flow, special test credentials (like user_bank_income / {}) may be ignored. This behavior ensures that the OAuth flow remains standardized while still allowing you to explore specialized testing scenarios.
While we recommend using the pre-seeded test users, you can also create a sandbox custom user to test with. We have examples of custom users that are compatible with CRA on our GitHub. Please use any of the examples under the “income” section. If you intend to make any adjustments, ensure that transactions and identity info are still included. If you are testing CRA income insights, a depository account is required. Note that some fields and calculations may not appear as expected on a custom_user, such as the Employer name, if there is not a clear name from the transaction description.
