login_only overview

Current API

Plaid’s current API handles all login flows automatically!

Legacy API

The "login_only" option should be included when adding Connect users to onboard them as quickly as possible. This ensures users are able to complete the authentication flow without waiting for their transactions to be pulled.

A /connect request without "login_only" will return accounts, transactions, and an access_token.

A /connect request with "login_only": true will return just accounts and an access_token.

curl -X POST https://tartan.plaid.com/connect \
  -d client_id=test_id \
  -d secret=test_secret \
  -d username=plaid_test \
  -d password=plaid_good \
  -d type=wells \
  -d options='{
       "webhook":"http://requestb.in/",
       "login_only":true }'

First, Plaid will collect, parse, and clean 30 days of the user's transactions. When those transactions have been pulled, you will be notified of their availability with a Code 0 - Initial Transaction Pull Webhook.

Then, Plaid will collect, parse, and clean all of a user's historical transactions. When those transactions have been pulled, you will be notified of their availability with a Code 1 - Historical Transaction Webhook.

Note that Plaid Link has "login_only" enabled by default.
